Need a break from the daily grind of city living and commuting? A newly renovated escape will officially open in a few days!
The HKFYG Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp, in lush, beautiful surroundings, taking advantage of Hong Kong’s great natural environmental resources has recently been extended to include learning experiences for everyone.
Guests can take advantage of the model DIY Teaching Kitchen, using fresh produce grown locally in terraced and rooftop organic farms which uses food waste fertilizer made on-site. Along with an aquaponics ecosystem, city folk will really see the benefits of careful resource uses and recycling.
All this is part of the new Jockey Club Go Green Living Block, which also includes a spacious multi-function room, ideal for dancing, martial arts and indoor fitness, six new dormitory blocks, and a new restaurant block.
The Jockey Club Go Green Living Block and the new extension will officially open on Saturday 28 February at the HKFYG Jockey Club Sai Kung Outdoor Training Camp.

Ten thousand galloping horses, united with one heart: VOTE NOW!
HKFYG is hosting an installation art and education project with The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust as main sponsor.Thanks also to strategic partners Discovery Park and Dah Sing Life. Xu Beihong’s Galloping Horse has been used as a blueprint for 3-D eco-models decorated by 10,000 pupils and members of the public, at over 100 schools, art studios and Youth SPOTs in Hong Kong, Taiwan and on the mainland.
See the creative imagination in 1,000 models. Online voting until 28 February at m21.hk/10000horses/vote.php.
All 1,000 will become installation art and 8 will receive awards.

From Theory to Practice‧Develop Science Potential
Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2015
Jointly organized by HKFYG, the Education Bureau and the Hong Kong Science Museum, this competition is supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. 215 teams from 76 secondary schools are competing and the sub-theme is Light Science.

2014/15 Hong Kong Green Mech Contest
The 2014/15 Hong Kong Green Mech Contest involves about 300 students from 38 Hong Kong schools. They apply green energy concepts, plus knowledge of physics, chemistry, and mechanics to create a unique Rube Goldberg Machine. The contest has been run by HKFYG since 2010. Thanks go to Babyboom Learning Co Ltd and Gigo Industrial Co Ltd for their continued support and to the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science & Technology Parks Corporation for sponsorship.

Home Affairs Bureau funds life planning scheme
HKFYG's Youth Employment Network has funding from the Home Affairs Bureau to implement a 20-month life planning programme, Working Reality (職場實戰計劃) till August 2016. Its goal is to promote life planning education and multiple career options for secondary students via NGOs that organize projects with secondary schools students, parents and teachers.

YEN collaborates with Burberry Foundation on job training and skills programme for DSE holders
HKFYG’s Youth Employment Network (YEN) is collaborating with the Burberry Foundation to organize Burberry Create again this summer. The programme includes career-related training, summer placement and creative business challenges for DSE graduates, equipping them with business etiquette skills and increasing their confidence. Selected students will be offered a 7-week subsidized placement to gain real work experience in the luxury fashion industry.

Perceptions on retirement
new youth survey from HKFYG Youth Research Centre
Close to 70% of the young people who took part in the survey supported a universal retirement scheme with means testing. Over 80% thought a government scheme was financially feasible but 73% said it should only assist those with genuine financial difficulties. 53.0% said that financing retirement should largely be the responsibility of individuals, while 23% said the government should be the prime provider. 60% were already saving for their retirement. The optimal age for retiring was considered to be 60. Asked what was most worrying about retirement, 57% said it was difficulty paying medical bills and about 25% said it was housing.
