Teams from Ju Ching Chu Secondary School (Yuen Long) and King's College were also selected for the I-SWEEEP 2015 contest in Houston, US, 7-12 May. Well done to all of them!
The main aim of the competition, co-organized by HKFYG, is to build young people's interest in science and technology.Thanks go to partners, the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Science Museum, the Innovation and Technology Commission, the Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation. Head Judges on 11 April were Prof Wong Yuk-shan, President, Open University, HK and Prof Henry NC Wong, Head, New Asia College, Dean of Science, Chinese University of HK. Mr Johann Wong, Deputy Commissioner for Innovation and Technology, was the Guest of Honour. Guests representing other partners were Dr Catherine Chan Ka-ki, Deputy Secretary for Education, & Ms Karen Sit, Director, Hong Kong Science Museum. Mr Kenneth Chen represented HKFYG as one of the judges.

HKFYG's Study Planning Centre now recruiting enthusiastic volunteers as peer counsellors for DSE students
Study Planning Centre volunteers
When the public HKDSE exam results are released this summer many young people will have doubts and queries. Hotline and online counselling services at the Federation move into gear to cater for their needs. The Federation's Study Planning Centre is now seeking volunteer peer counsellors, aged 18 or above at post-secondary education level, to provide them with emotional support and advice, plus information on further studies.

Project iSmart - iSmarter with Hong Kong Police Force New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office
Nearly 100 13-18 year-olds in Tsuen Wan, Kwai Tsing and Tung Chung districts have signed up as volunteers with this project. They will pass on a message about being 'iSmarter' on mobile apps and social media and build awareness about cybercrime prevention among their peers. HKFYG's partner is the Hong Kong Police Force New Territories South Regional Crime Prevention Office. Mr Wong Yiu-chung, MH, Vice-chairman of the Kwai Tsing District Fight Crime Committee as well as Mr James Lam Yat-fung, principal of Lions College, were VIP guests at the kickoff ceremony on 10 April 2015 at the HKFYG Jockey Club Kwai Fong Youth SPOT.

Project Job-tionary kicks off with Home Affairs Bureau at Youth Career Expo
HKFYG's Youth Employment network has support from the Home Affairs Bureau for this life planning programme designed for all Secondary 3-6 students. Project Job-tionary,《職業字典》計劃, features 5 upcoming events: a Youth Career Expo, Career Sharing, online quiz for Secondary 3 students, a Learning Styles Workshop and a micro movie competition. From this summer there will also be a website with information on over 150 jobs. The programme runs through until February 2017.

Dr Eleanor Wong Arts Learning Scholarship Scheme in Tin Shui Wai
Imagine being at school in Tin Shui Wai, with little access to cultural events or opportunities. This 2-year programme, enabled by donations from Dr Eleanor Wong, offers Chinese painting and calligraphy, ballet dancing, and an introduction to western and Chinese musical instruments to underprivileged students. Already, the first Tin Shui Wai community-based orchestra has been set up. Now, territory-wide recruitment, with priority to New Territories North and West districts, is taking place for the second intake. Participants, who are invited to join the Dr Eleanor Wong Arts Learning Scholarship Scheme Alumni and give back to the community, will be selected after auditions in June.

Now available from the Federation's Youth Now available from the Federation's Youth Research Centre, this issue of the HKFYG Journal of Youth Studies focuses on understanding the affordability of financial assistance for the elderly, a topical subject for an ageing society. It includes discussion on financial education and young people's attitudes to reform of retirement protection and allowances schemes. Also included are articles about challenges for business young start-ups in Hong Kong, mainland China, Taiwan and Macao.
