Youth Matters
Youth Think Tank
A new platform has been established where young people can meet to discuss current issues and share ideas. Youth I.D.E.A.S., a think tank for young people, brings together 110 young professionals and post-secondary students with eight academics and professionals as advisers. Within this environment, and looking at evidence-based research, they will explore policy solutions to address relevant concerns.

Youth I.D.E.A.S., which stands for Ideals, Dedication, Engagement, Aspirations and Service will also publish monthly reports, the first of which focuses on employment and economic development. Entitled, "The Opportunities of Vocational Training for Youth Employment," it will be released today. Further reports will follow, in the areas of employment and economic development, governance and constitutional development, education and innovation, society and livelihood.

Youth I.D.E.A.S. has been established by the Federation's Youth Research Centre.

Data was gathered from 950 14-25 year-olds in this online survey, initiated by the new HKFYG Youth I.D.E.A.S. think tank and conducted last month. A minority of 18.2% consider that vocational training educational credentials receive sufficient recognition in Hong Kong. 44.8% think that prospects with vocational training are worse than with an academic education. Focus group interviews conducted with 21 young people also revealed that many had misconceptions about vocational training or had insufficient information about it to be useful for choosing career paths.
