At a crossroads
Turning Point Youth Improvement Awards
What makes vulnerable young people turn their backs on delinquency? How do they stop being school truants or give up drugs? Turning a new leaf for some youngsters comes from realizing how badly they let down their families, and then accepting counselling from Federation outreaching social workers.

The Turning Point Youth Improvement Awards, to be made this weekend, acknowledge the remarkable change ten young people have made after facing up to personal challenges with crime, sex, drugs or violence. This year, 40 nominations from the HKFYG Youth Crime Prevention Centre included teenage dropouts, young drug abusers and petty pilferers who had spent time in jail. Now, with steadfast support from their parents they have worthwhile goals and a future to look forward to.

As one of last year's awardees said of the lessons learned, "Life can be either comedy or tragedy. You are the only director and only you can decide."
